If you thought prunes were just something your grandparents ate to help them poop, this recipe might change your mind.

We’re making an oat and chocolate fudge slice with a buttery cinnamon crumble and a thick, rich chocolate centre that gets its natural sweetness from prunes.

And while it tastes like an indulgent chocolate dessert, it’s also full of ingredients that can help support healthy bowel movements.

Prunes contain fibre and naturally occurring sorbitol, which can help soften stools and encourage regularity. We’re pairing them with fibre-rich oats, flaxseeds, almonds and tahini for a delicious combination of textures and gut-loving goodness.

Because getting your sh*t together should taste this good.

How this recipe supports a healthy gut and regular bowels:

PRUNES

Prunes are rich in dietary fibre and naturally occurring sorbitol, a sugar alcohol that helps draw water into the bowel and soften stools. Research suggests that regularly consuming prunes can help improve stool frequency and consistency in people experiencing constipation.

ROLLED OATS

Oats provide both soluble and insoluble fibre, including beta-glucan. These fibres support digestive health by contributing to stool bulk and providing fermentable carbohydrates for beneficial gut bacteria.

GROUND FLAXSEEDS

Flaxseeds provide both soluble and insoluble fibre, which help support stool bulk and regular bowel movements. We’ve used ground flaxseeds because their tough outer coating has been broken down, making nutrients like plant-based omega-3 fatty acids and lignans easier for the body to access. Whole flaxseeds, on the other hand, can pass through the digestive system largely undigested.

Extra Tip: Ideally, buy whole flaxseeds, grind them as needed, or store pre-ground flaxseed in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer.

TAHINI

Made from ground sesame seeds, tahini contributes dietary fibre and unsaturated fats.
