Food For The Overstimulated | Serves: 2 | Prep Time: 10 Minutes | Cook Time: 15–20 Minutes | Main Meal

This is one of those proper CBF meals, really really simple, quick to throw together, but still filling, fresh and satisfying!

How does this recipe support the nervous system?

This salad is all about making a proper meal feel easy.

The sausages provide protein and B vitamins, feta adds calcium and extra protein, pepitas bring magnesium and zinc, while the rocket and cucumber add freshness, fibre and plant nutrients.

It’s simple, satisfying and doesn’t ask much of you, which is exactly the kind of meal that works when your brain already has enough going on.

Sausages

Good-quality sausages provide protein and B vitamins, including vitamin B12 depending on the meat used (ideally beef, or chicken with a mix of pork). Protein helps make the meal more satisfying and provides amino acids used throughout the body, while B vitamins support normal energy metabolism and nervous-system function.

Pepitas

Pepitas are one of the richer everyday food sources of magnesium and also provide zinc, healthy fats and some protein. Magnesium is involved in normal nerve and muscle function, while zinc supports normal cellular and neurological processes.

Feta

Feta adds protein, calcium and fat, helping make the salad more substantial. Calcium plays an important role in normal nerve signalling and muscle function.

Rocket

Rocket adds a peppery freshness while providing folate, vitamin K and a range of naturally occurring plant compounds.

Cucumber

Cucumber adds crunch, hydration and volume to the salad with very little prep.

It’s not the nutritional hero of the dish, but it makes the whole meal feel fresher and a pleasure to eat.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Extra virgin olive oil provides monounsaturated fats and naturally occurring polyphenols, while also helping the salad feel more satisfying and complete.

Why the whole meal works

The biggest win here is the low mental load.

You’ve got protein, fats, greens, minerals and crunch in one bowl, but the whole thing is basically just cook, chop, toss and eat.

For this month, that matters just as much as the nutrient list.
